Atomic Habits by James Clear

This is the January 2024 Pensacola Mom Collective Book Club pick. It helps even the busiest moms transform their daily habits to create huge change. I’ve just started reading it, and I’ve already filled the pages with highlighter ink!

Real Self-Care A Transformative Program for Redefining Wellness (Crystals, Cleanses and Bubble Baths Not Included) by Pooja Lakshmin, MD

This is for the mom who doesn’t feel any lasting shifts even after partaking in highly popular self-care practices such as a facials or pedicures. I was drawn to this book because it seemed like my own self-care practices were a cheap bandaid to anxiety and overwhelm. A nail salon will not magically help avoid burnout. Get ready to make some people uncomfortable because this is not your average self-care book.

I Will Teach You To Be Rich: No Guilt. No Excuses. No BS. Just a 6-Week Program That Works by Ramit Sethi

I’ve always considered myself to be pretty savy with money, even living on a teacher’s salary, so I was pleasantly surprised how the author laid it out straight and set me up for even more financial success with little effort. This is like the crock pot that you turn on in the morning and dinner is ready at night, except finance style. You set-up automatic investments and simplify your finances, and before you know it, you’re living a rich life. This book helps you to be intentional about things you love and helps you dig deep into your money psychology. My only complaint about this book is that I didn’t read it sooner. Set Boundaries, Find Peace by Nedra Glover Tawwab

I’ve heard this author on several podcasts and she has a way of making boundary setting seem totally doable. Maybe you’ve just spent the holidays saying yes to everything or you’ve been a people pleaser since you were in grade school and you’re ready for a change. This book is for the mom who wants to be empowered to live life on her own terms.

Aim True: Love Your Body, Eat Without Fear, Discover True Balance! by Kathryn Budig

I bought this book immediately back in 2016 when I saw one of the recipes was Maple Cashew Ice Cream. Yummy! The author is also a yoga teacher who encourages the reader to approach their health in a mindful and loving way. She lovingly describes her body as a, “meat suit.” She says it takes the pressure off of it being perfect and helps her focus on what’s good for the soul inside.

Happy Reading in 2024!

Rebecca Austin
Rebecca grew up in Michigan but after college decided the Sunshine State was the place to be. She is a music teacher and runs her own yoga business, but being a mom is the most challenging experience on her resume. Rebecca has a spunky 7 year old girl and two step-sons who teach her everything she never wanted to know about video games. She tries to wake up before the sun to get in her daily yoga practice and she loves to blame the kids for going to get ice cream. Rebecca loves writing AND being a mom so this online community is a dream come true. Rebecca is inspired to share about the mind-body-spirit connection, benefits of biking vs. driving, the challenges (and joys) of blended family life, baking, and tips for being an entrepreneur mama.
