Where to Stay

The Bohemian Hotel Savannah Riverfront

Nestled on the riverfront in the historic district, this hotel combines luxury with a funky twist. The convenient location allows you to walk to all the stores and shops on the riverwalk. The rooftop bar, Rocks on the Roof, was terrific! You can enjoy the view of the river while having a nice cocktail. The staff, especially Cedric in the lobby, is top-notch.

Perry Lane Hotel

This hotel provides both luxury and location. It is in the historic district and is very walkable to anywhere you want to go. Should you need to go somewhere a little farther away, the hotel has two cars ready to take you within a two-mile radius at no additional charge. The rooftop pool is a crowd-pleaser for both adults and children. They truly provide an excellent experience.

Where to Eat

The Planters Tavern

Most people have heard of The Olde Pink House, but not as many are familiar with The Planters Tavern. It is underneath The Olde Pink House on the front corner towards Reynolds Square. They have a tiny little sign, so it is easy to miss.

Just make sure that you put this spot on your list! It is candlelight, making it a romantic destination. The dark furnishings and decor give it a speakeasy feel. They have the same menu as The Olde Pink House, so the food is divine. Plan ahead and book the wine cellar. It is romantic, private, and rustic. The staff, ambiance, and food are stellar.

Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room

If you want a more family and budget-friendly option while in Savannah, Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room is for you. Dinner is served family-style, so you never know who you will end up dining with. That makes it even more of an adventure. They serve down-home southern fare, making you feel like you have been to your grandma’s house for dinner. The line does get long, so arrive early! Also, be sure to bring cash, as they do not accept credit cards.

Crystal Beer Parlor

Crystal Beer Parlor will surely be a crowd-pleaser for everyone in your party. It is a well-known local hang-out with a large selection of beers to sample. They offer a casual atmosphere yet deliver top-of-the-line dishes (everything is made from scratch). You cannot miss the crab stew or the peach cobbler. This restaurant will quickly become a favorite.

What to Do

Forsyth Park

This is a must-see while visiting Savannah. The iconic fountain in the center is an excellent location for family photos or even marriage proposals (which we saw when we were there!). Believe it or not, the fountain was actually ordered from a catalog. Once you see it in person, it is hard to imagine how something of this size was delivered way back then. The park is a great spot for picnics, people watching, and many artists will line up around the park. There are also many playgrounds and landmarks along the walking path.

Bonaventure Cemetery

I know it seems a little creepy to visit a cemetery, but this cemetery is beautiful. It is filled with history, as many notable Savannah natives are buried here. The low-hanging Spanish moss and ornate Victorian-era sculptures and headstones are simply stunning. It is a peaceful, somber place, but also one you don’t want to miss. Make sure that you pay for the tour. The guides are full of information and stories that will really make you happy that you didn’t miss this special historical site.

Sorrel Weed House

This list wouldn’t be complete without a ghost tour! The Sorrel Weed House is a historic home known for its hauntings. The architecture of this home alone is very impressive. Your inner history nerd will be elated to learn the history of the home and its residents. Many are skeptical about actually seeing or encountering ghosts. However, the tour itself is very dark and eerie. Our tour guide was amazing and offered lots of fun stories along the way. I took some photos while we were on the tour, and it appears I captured “something.” I am now a little more convinced that maybe ghosts do exist!
