At Home
Sometimes it’s far easier to wrangle your celebration in the backyard. Beyond the typical burger and BBQ, there are fun ways to involve the kiddos in planning and celebrating.
Movies- Have your kids pick out their favorite All-American flicks! Movies like The Sandlot, Field of Dreams, John Wayne, American Treasure, etc. are fun for the whole family and a good way to escape the heat for a bit.
Party prep- Get the kids involved in making foods that are red, white, and blue. I will never turn my nose up at a good old-fashioned American flag cake! The classic vanilla icing with strawberries and blueberries is a great way to get little ones involved in the food preparation. Other options could be patriotic Rice Krispies treats (they make a special summer version of the cereal!), fruit salad, or even having them help decorate the table.
Bring the (safe!) fireworks home- Left up to my husband, this could get dicey. But things along the lines of sparklers, poppers, and even patriotic pinwheels have been a huge hit for decades! You can get them at Target or Walmart easily, making your life easier but still bringing a special feel to the holiday.
The Day After
Keep that patriotic vibe going at Breakfast with the Blues! Both events are on Wednesday, July 5th beginning at 8AM.
Admission: Adults $45/Kids 12 and under $25
Admission: Adults $35/Kids 12 and under $17.50
Happy Birthday and Blues Week, America!
