Meet Terrie Campfield-Grammer
Tell us about your family. How many kids do you have? What are their ages?
John and I met here in Pensacola 29 years ago. We have been married for 28 years and counting. John is a busy OB/GYN and I own a small business. We were blessed with three beautiful children. Alexis “Lexie” is 24, Landon is 22 and Chandler is 19. Lexie was recently accepted to the FSU College of Medicine and will start next summer. Landon and Chandler are both attending the University of West Florida. Although John and I both come from military families and have traveled the world, we proudly call Pensacola our family hometown.
What do you do for a living?
What do you like about raising a family in Pensacola? What is challenging about raising a family here?
Pensacola is a fantastic community to raise a family. It is a growing, thriving diverse community. It’s just small enough, yet does not lack in history, culture, arts, and many of the things that typically only a larger city can offer. I can’t speak to the local public school system here, but I can say that Pensacola has some excellent private school options. I can’t really think of anything challenging about our community, other than the unknowns of each year’s hurricane season.
What do you consider to be the greatest joy of motherhood? The greatest challenge?
What do you do to recharge? How do you practice self-care?
To recharge I meditate and spend a lot of time in prayer. Prayer keeps me grounded, especially during difficult times. I also like to indulge in some serious mani/pedi time, a good massage, and occasional walks on the beach at sundown. And my all-time favorite guilty pleasure is going to the movies alone!
What is your favorite local thing to do/place to go?
I enjoy what Pensacola’s ever-growing downtown area has to offer. Just taking in the quaint downtown vibe is most enjoyable. Even if it’s just to walk down Palafox and take in the shops, festivals, and arts, it’s just very peaceful to me.
What book are you reading (or listening to) right now? Do you have a favorite podcast?
What is your favorite local business in Pensacola?
Oh gosh! There are so many favorite local businesses. I just adore the many shops that are available in downtown Pensacola. But I will say, my favorite place to go is Alice’s Restaurant. Alice Guy and her team go above and beyond and not just with the beautifully prepared meals or the top-notch service. For me, it’s about the ambiance and tranquility, while catching up with each one of our family members over a delicious meal. For the Grammer family, a peaceful evening at Alice’s is much welcomed after a long and busy work and school week for each of us.
What is your best advice for a new mom or a mom in a difficult season?
Always trust gut – it will never lead you astray. Do what works for you and trust your instincts. When you feel exhausted or overwhelmed, pray, meditate, and take one day at a time. Always, I mean always, have a good Mom support system in place.
What is the one thing you wish you could tell ALL moms about raising kids?
Try hard not to be supermom! It is so easy to get caught up in. Trust me, I know. Love yourself and your children unconditionally, because they are always watching everything we do.
