Meet Gloria Nettles
How many kids do you have? What are their ages?
We have a total of 5 children – 25, 24, 18, 17, and 13.
What do you do for a living?
I am in catering and I am also the Ombudsman for Naval Air Station Pensacola. In this volunteer role, I represent the interests of all the families stationed at NAS Pensacola to the Commanding Officer.
What do you do to reset and recharge, especially with the craziness of life right now?
I get a massage and try to take days off to rest.
What do you like about raising a family here?
I love to go to the beaches. I also love the cost of living and the country along with the local school bands.
What is challenging about raising a family here?
Sometimes my kids feel lonely because we live far away from the base, which can make it hard for them to relate to other military kids.
What is your favorite local thing to do/place to go?
I love going to Casks & Flights and Gallery Nights downtown.
Is there a hidden gem in Pensacola you love?
Cosse’s Place in Milton.
How can Pensacola better serve you as a mom?
This is a great question. I would love to see the Pensacola community support military spouses and their careers. Because we move around so much, our resumes have a lot of diverse experiences as well as some gaps in employment (which are beyond our control!). I believe a greater understanding of this issue would help military spouses find the careers and jobs they need.
What piece of advice would you give to mothers right now?
You’re the best. Always remember you’re the “Master Of Multitasking” (MOM). You can do anything.
Tell us about your favorite thing to do in your downtime?
In my downtime, I love watching old shows like M*A*S*H and hanging out with my kids doing family activities.
Anything else you would like us to know about yourself that makes you uniquely you?
I love children. I can always relate to them and give them advice. Children are our future and I love motivating them.
