For as long as I can remember, the debut of new fall fashion trends has been something I look forward to year every year. I love plaids, cozy fabrics, and autumnal colors.
Fashion Report from New York
Lucky for me, I have a daughter who attends the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. This means that I get the inside scoop on the latest fashion trends hitting the streets of the Big Apple.
This year, I asked her to share a little of the fall fashion forecast with me. So, without further ado, here are the 2023 fall fashion trends.
Color of the Season
The runways of Paris showed tons of cherry cola red and crimson for this fall and winter. Red is such a timeless classic that everyone has in their closet. It isn’t just for the holidays, so pull out your favorite red sweater now!
Jeans
Jeans are always a big item of interest for fall. This year, anything goes BUT skinny jeans! Baggy, wide-leg, cargo pants, and even low-rise (Hi, Y2K) are all back in style.
Shoes
Toss those Golden Goose sneakers and go for a pair of Adidas Sambas. They come in so many different colors now. Your options are endless! You can dress them up or down and always be comfortable.
Loafers are also big for fall 2023. This is great news, as these are a classic staple for any closet. Since they usually have a low heel, this is also great news in the comfort department.
No fall shoe trend list would be complete without boots, am I right? This year you should see a lot of chunky lace-up boots. You will also see the return of the slouchy thigh-high boot.
Shirts & Sweaters
The classic unisex button-down is getting its moment in the spotlight this fall. You can go with the standard crisp white button-down, a nice plaid, or even a denim look. These are also great layering pieces, so they work well in lots of different climates.
The secretary cardigan, also a classic, is another must-have for Fall 2023. Cardigans that are slim-fitting with a high neckline are the most popular. However, they come in all sorts of styles, from ribbed sets to a looser fit.
Side-swept sweaters are also big on the fall trend list. Lots of draping, wrapped effects, and, of course, oversized sweaters are all trending right now.
Skirts & Dresses
This year, knit skirt sets are offered in so many different styles. You will find anything from bralettes and crop top sets (for the younger crowd) to knit cardigan sets for the rest of us.
Also, in the skirt and dress department, bubble hems are big this season. This is a true nod to the 80s, and I am here for it.
Finally, the big trend of the year is ballet-inspired. You can expect to see a lot of lace, tutus, and ballet-like footwear to complete the look.
Classics with a Modern Twist
Fall 2023 definitely has a return of some classics. So, dig out that white button-down and pair it with some cargo jeans and Adidas sambas.
