Avoid Car Rider Line This Year

Three words every parent dreads…

Car. Rider. Line.

the side of a car along orange cones in a parking lotAs a teacher, I have first-hand experience with car rider line. I’m constantly swiveling my head back and forth to ensure precious babes are safe from a sea of moving cars. On a good day, teachers are done in 30 minutes, but I see parents waiting over an hour to be first in line. Don’t even get me started on rainy-day dismissal.

How can we stop this madness?

Shouldn’t there be a better way to pick up our beloved offspring after a long day at school?

Enter the family ebike, aka the electric cargo bike. A cargo bike is designed to carry loads of all kinds.

If you don’t think you can stand one more minute of afternoon pick-up purgatory, then take a look at these cute car alternatives. You don’t even have to sweat on an ebike because of something magical called e-assist.

Let’s face it, pedaling is much more fun than driving, AND if a Cheeto falls to the floor, you just throw it to the birds. No vacuum required.

There is also the magic of experiencing the world together on a bike.

Here are some ebikes that might work for your family:

For Moms Who Love Inclusivity and Community

The Bunch Bike CAN go fast, but that’s not the point. This bike is great for families of up to 4 kids (6 if you buy The Preschool version) and is perfect for avoiding the car rider line. My favorite thing about this company is its promise to help all families, especially those with special needs. They also have a sweet “Superhero Discount” for active military/veterans, teachers, health care workers, firefighters, EMTs, and mental health providers.

From a surfboard rack to a quaint “pop top” that covers your littles when it rains, the Yuba Spicy Curry has got an accessory for your family. This model is perfect for those who are more into cruising than Tour de France-type riding.

For the Modern Mom

The first time I saw the Urban Arrow one in person, I couldn’t stop staring as it sped off like a speeding bullet. It’s so sleek. Makes me think it was once a sports car in a former life.

For Moms Who Love Function and Style

I absolutely love that the Blix Packa Genie seems to do everything, AND it comes in a super cool teal shade. As a mom who often rides while wearing a dress, I appreciate that you can buy a wheel guard so your frock doesn’t get stuck. For those of you that have a long commute AFTER the car rider line, this bike can go up to 80 miles on one charge. Eat that car rider line.

For the No-Nonsense Mom

The Lectric XPedition eBike is priced low AND has 5-star reviews. The Lectric’s lower price point might be attractive for moms who are not yet convinced eBikes are the right fit but want to give it a try.

Last fall, my partner showed me a photo of a cargo bike, and my jaw dropped. I’ve always loved riding bikes, but I told him it “wasn’t for me.” Just weeks later, I placed an order for my first ebike. I just couldn’t stop thinking about it.

Now we bike to school, work, the park, grocery pick up (you should see the looks we get), as well as leisurely sunset strolls.

We have made SO many friends, and it’s not uncommon for us to pick up passengers along the way. My health has improved because fresh air is good for a mama’s soul.

I would love to hear your thoughts.

Which one would you pick? Would you ever consider getting an ebike?

Happy riding back to school or wherever your heart takes you!
