Celebrating the Easter Season and Resurrection Sunday With Kids

0

Our family loves springtime. The days are longer, and the weather is warming up. Spring sports have started. We’re spending more time outside (and thank goodness for this because we’re not inside watching Encanto for the gazillionth time!)

And with springtime comes one of our favorite holidays– Easter!

While our family enjoys a good ol’ egg hunt with the Easter bunny, complete with Easter baskets and new outfits, as well as our yearly family Easter feast, we also use this time to reflect on the meaning of Easter.

To share this with our children, we’ve incorporated these three ways to keep Easter fun and Christ-centered for our family.

Easter Cross – Craft

Materials

  • Paint
  • Canvas board
  • Painters Tape

This one is super simple!

Directions

  1. Take painter’s tape and make a cross on the canvas board.
  2. Paint all over the canvas.
  3. Once dried, peel off the painter’s tape.
  4. And now you have a cross!

Resurrection Eggs – Story of the Easter

We love reading the story of Christ’s resurrection using these “Resurrection Eggs.” Every night we open one egg according to the storybook, and the girls pull out a trinket. Then, we read the corresponding story that goes along with it.

You can find this on Amazon! And if you want to do one egg a night, you want to start 12 days out from Easter Sunday. In my family, we start a week before Easter and do two eggs a night to mitigate any fights on whose turn it is to open an Easter egg.

Resurrection Rolls – A Yummy Treat

Y’all, we love making these every year. It’s such a fun (and yummy) way to share the story of Christ!

Ingredients

  • Crescent Roll Dough
  • Sugar & Cinnamon mixture
  • Marshmallows (the average size, not mini or jumbo)
  • Melted Butter

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven according to the crescent roll dough package.
  2. Unroll each crescent triangle and set aside.
  3. Take the marshmallow and dip it in the melted butter. The marshmallow represents Christ as He was pure and without sin. Dipping the marshmallow in the melted butter represents the embalming oils.

  4. Roll the marshmallow in the cinnamon & sugar mixture. This is like the spices used to prepare Christ’s body for burial.
  5. Wrap the marshmallow in crescent roll dough. This represents Jesus’ body being wrapped in linen. (Note: Make sure to pinch the dough tightly to secure the seams.)Resurrection Roll before going into the oven
  6. Place the rolls in the oven AKA the “tomb.”

  7. Bake according to the instructions on the crescent roll package.
  8. When the rolls are finished, take them out of the oven, and let them cool.A tray of Resurrection Rolls

Once the rolls are cooled, break them open. You’ll notice that the marshmallow is gone…just like Jesus was three days later. We’ll often read Luke 24:1-12 along with this activity. Resurrection RollYoung girl with a Resurrection rollResurrection Roll

We hope that these three Easter activities inspire some fun, creative ways to celebrate Easter and Resurrection Sunday this year.

Have a blessed Easter celebration!
