February is National Children’s Dental Health Month!
Did you know that the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommends that a child visit the dentist by age 1 or within six months after the first tooth erupts?
Pensacola Mom Collective is pleased to feature Drs. Allie and Neil Simmons, board-certified pediatric dentists at Pensacola Kids Dentistry.
We have partnered with Drs. Simmons to bring you some important facts about caring for your child’s teeth and establishing a good brushing routine:
-
Starting at birth, clean your child’s gums with a soft cloth and water.
-
As soon as your child’s teeth erupt, brush them with a soft-bristled toothbrush.
-
If they are under the age of 2, use a small “smear” of toothpaste.
-
If they are 2-5 years old, use a “pea-size” amount of toothpaste.
-
Be sure and use an ADA-accepted fluoride toothpaste and make sure your child does not swallow it.
-
When brushing, the parent should brush the child’s teeth until they are old enough to do a good job on their own.
Doctor Allie and Doctor Neil specialize in children and adolescence with a focus on preventive care to help each child grow a healthy smile that will last a lifetime. Raising a family of their own in Pensacola, they know what you are looking for in a dentist and the importance of finding a practice that not only cares for your children but for your family as well.
