Children’s Mental Health: A Growing Concern for Parents

We have partnered with Lakeview Center to bring relevant and important information to Pensacola Mom Collective readers through this sponsored post.

From social media pressures to academic stress, children’s mental health has emerged as a critical issue. How can parents tell if a child may need mental health counseling? And what resources are available in our community?

Recognizing the Need for Help

If you suspect that your child is struggling with a mental health issue, don’t wait to seek help. Early intervention can make a significant difference in your child’s well-being in both the short- and long-term.

Some of the signs to watch for include changes in behavior, such as withdrawal from activities kids once enjoyed, drastic mood swings, changes in sleeping or eating patterns, and any talk of self-harm or hopelessness.

Depression can sometimes come off as irritability and talking back more. If your child expresses persistent sadness, anxiety, or anger, it might be time to seek professional help.

Lakeview Center’s Central Access Program

Convenient access to care means more children and families get the mental health services they need. To help, Lakeview Center has launched a new Central Access program designed to provide comprehensive screenings and connect those in need with the appropriate mental health services.

The Central Access program offers a thorough screening process where a clinician evaluates the child’s symptoms and needs. Based on this assessment, families are connected with the program that best fits their needs. This may include family, individual or group counseling, including specialized groups focused on needs such as anger management, coping skills and depression. Lakeview Center also offers psychiatry services plus a range of specialized programs dedicated to meeting families’ needs.

Appointments can be scheduled by calling 850-469-3500 (Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Lakeview Center’s Central Access Program is available to adults and children of all ages.

Crisis Intervention and the Mobile Response Team

For families experiencing a mental health crisis, immediate help is available – for both children and adults. Lakeview Center’s Mobile Response Team (MRT) is a crucial resource, providing 24/7 support. MRT can come to your home, school, workplace, or any location where a crisis occurs, offering urgent assistance and stabilization.

The Mobile Response Team is available 24/7 to provide immediate assistance during a mental health crisis. This service is invaluable in preventing escalation and ensuring the safety and well-being of the child and family.
